Procedure for Storing Archived Web Content


1. Purpose

Ensure that archived web content on all university-affiliated websites is accurately classified and clearly identified as being archived in conformance with the rule on digital accessibility under Americans with Disability Act.

Archived Web Content

Archived web content means web content that—

  1. Was created before April 24, 2026 or reproduces the contents of other physical media created before that date;
  2. Is retained exclusively for reference, research, or record keeping;
  3. Is not altered or updated after the date of archiving; and
  4. Is organized and stored in a dedicated area or areas clearly identified as being archived.

5. Roles and Responsibilities

Civil Rights Compliance Office
  • Publishes guidance on ADA Title II requirements for Archived Web Content
Content Creators
  • Properly label archived web content in accordance with Civil Rights Compliance Office and Marketing and Communication guidance.
  • Ensure that web pages that do not meet criteria for archive web content comply with accessibility standards
Marketing and Communications
  • Publishes templates and instructions for using the Archive Banner on UW Webpages.
