Document Management (DocFinity) Wildcard Search


The following describes the functionality and behavior of using wildcards in search prompts.

Metadata (phrase), whose values contain the following three entries:

  • I wish I had a dog
  • Dog is man's best friend
  • The little dog laughed

Searches configured to search for the metadata (phrase) that CONTAINS X, where X is the search prompt:

  • Search Prompt: dog
  • Will find all 3 phrases
  • Search Prompt: %dog
  • Will find "I wish I had a dog" only
  • Search Prompt: dog%
  • Will find "Dog is man's best friend" only
  • Search Prompt" %dog%
  • Will find all 3 phrases

Search configured to search for the metadata (phrase) that EQUALS X, where X is the search prompt:

  • Search Prompt: dog
  • Will find NO matches
  • Search Prompt: %dog
  • Will find "I wish I had a dog" only
  • Search Prompt: dog%
  • Will find "Dog is man's best friend" only
  • Search Prompt" %dog%
  • Will find all 3 phrases

Search configured to search by Name with two or more parts: 

  • First name and complete last name (both parts)
  • Last name and comma and first name
  • Last name (first part) and Last name (first letter only) and comma
